The word esthetics ( also spelled Aesthetics) comes to us from the branch of philosopy that pertains to or deals with the nature and forms of beauty. Esthetics, based on good taste and artistic principles is an approprate word to describe skin care and the realted theraputic practices
that help keep the body healthy and attractive.
As Estheticians we encourage living and working in a clean healthy enviornment, a healthy diet, regular exercise, limited unprotected sun exposure and stress relief that we find enjoyable.
The key to beautiful healthy skin is a healthy body and mind.
An Esthetician is recognized in the cosmotology or beauty industry as one who is trained to specialize in the practice of esthetics. especially the care of the skin. Estheticians are usually not medical practicioners (unless they have also earned the proper medical credentials) but they are frequently employed to assist dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons in certain treatment procedures.
Advanced training is available and very necessary for a number of services, some being lymphatic drainage, accupressure, reflexology. Aromatherapy, working with high concentrates of Alta"s and chemical peels, many types of body treatments and advanced specialized make-up work.
The field of esthetics is very diverse. An Esthetican can specialize in a specific area or offer many services. An Estethician who truly develops and expresses their individual passion and expertise in their work
will be the most sucessful.
The Esthetic Industry is forever changing and growing. The only way to stay sucessful is constant learning. Estheticians should never stop going to Trade Shows, classes and workshops. There are many associations and trade journals that are available tools to keep abreast of the industry.
